The Inula britannica, belonging to Compositae family, consists of about200species inthe world which widely distribute in Europe and Asia;in China, only20specie mainlydistributes in northwest, northeast, and south of Guangxi province etc. Inula britannica is atraditional Chinese medicine at herb. Inula plant has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory,hepatoprotective, antitumor, antioxidant and anti-diabetic effect etc. and ale generally used forthe treatment of jaundice, rheumatism, febricity, cephalalgia, and various other diseases. In order to explore much more pharmacological constituents of Inula britannica, thisthesis systematically and thoroughly studied the chemical constituents of the Inula britannica. The dried plant of Inula britannica concentrated with anhydrous ethanol were extracted withPetroleum ether, Ethyl acetate and n-Butanol, respectively, to obtain the correspondingextracts, By using silica gel column chromatography and HPLC, etc, fifteen compounds wereisolated from the Petroleum ether, Ethyl acetate and n-Butano extracts of Inula britannica. Onthe basis of classical chemical methods and modern spectrometric approaches (1H NMR,13CNMR, HMBC, HMQC, NOESY, etc), the structures of them were identified. The fifteencompounds were β-sitosterol(1), α-spinasterol(2), lupeol(3), quercetin-3-β-D-gluco-side(12),stigmasterol(4), kaempferol(8), stigmasterol(6), kaempferol-3-β-D-glucoside(9), quercetin(7),β-citrostadienol(5),kaempferol-7-β-D-glucoside(10),β-sitosterol-glucopyranoside(11),chlorogenic acid(14), α-glucose(15).The results of the investigation were expected to enrich the database of natural product,to afford the scientific basis of pharmacology, chemotaxonomy and screening of newmedicines, and to help the utilization of the Chinese natural resource as well as the research ofChinese herbal modernization.
