Objective:By applying combined therapy of press-needle with Loratadine tablets to treat persistent allergic rhinitis in children, to observe and evaluate its therapeutic effect and safety for persistent allergic rhinitis.Methods:75 qualified subjects with persistent allergic rhinitis were recruited and randomly distributed by proportion of 2:2:1 into 3 groups, with 30 in treatment group,30 in control group I and 15 in control group II. Patients in treatment group were treated by press-needle, with acupoints selection of DU29, bilateral LI20, bilateral ST36 and bilateral BL13; Meanwhile, they were asked to take required dosage of Loratadine tablets (Calarityne) according to their ages and body weight. Patients in control group I were received the same press-needle therapy only, without taking any drugs. Patients in control group ? were treated with placebo (press-needle without needle inside) in the same acupoints and taking Loratadine tablets as well. Symptom quantitative scale, visual analogue scale(VAS), rhinoconjunctivitis quality of life questionnaire(RQLQ) were adopted and changes of EOSR in serum were observed so as to assess symptom alleviation and improvement of life quality before and after treatment, and evaluate recurrence rate in the follow-up visit.Results:(1) Comparisons of clinical effects:After treatment, the total effective rate in treatment group was 92.31%; with 92.31%. in control group I,71.43% in control group ?. There was no statistical significance in the difference between treatment group and control group I (P>0.05), while it was statistically significant when compared to control group II.(2) Comparisons of symptom alleviation and improvement of life quality:The difference was statistically significant in comparisons of symptom quantitative scores,VAS scores and RQLQ scores before and after treatment within each group(P<0.05). After treatment, comparison of symptom quantitative scores and RQLQ scores between treatment group and control group II showed statistical significance(P<0.05), while no statistical significance between treatment group and control group I(P>0.05). There was no statistical significance in difference of VAS scores comparisons among the three groups (P>0.05).(3) Comparisons of EOSR in serum:EOSR in serum were compared before and after treatment within each group, and there was statistical significance(P<0.05); But comparisons between three groups after treatment showed no statistical significance(P>0.05).(4) Comparisons of recurrence rate:Subjects were followed up 3 weeks after treatment. There was no statistical significance in difference of recurrence rate among three groups (P>0.05). Conclusion:(1) Press-needle with Loratadine, and press-needle are both effective and safe treatment for persistent allergic rhinitis in children.(2) Treatment group(press-needle with Loratadine) was superior to control group ?(placebo with Loratadine) in therapeutic effect, symptom alleviation and RQLQ scores, while it showed no difference when compared with control group ?(press-needle only).(3) There was no difference of alleviation of subjective symptoms, EOSR level decline in serum and recurrence prevention among three groups.
