Objective:To determine programmed deathligand-1(PD-L1)expression in patients with resectable squamous cell esophageal carcinoma and investigate the association of PD-L1 with disease prognosis. Methods:This observational study was implemented in the hospital of Zhejiang university over two-year period starting on 1 June 2014 and ending on 1 June 2016,retrospectively collected data on patients aged 18 years or older who had underwent radical resection of esophageal carcinoma and followed up.Histopathological sections were constructed with specimens from 45 patients with squamous cell esophageal carcinoma, and immunohistochemical analysis was performed on these histopathological sections to assess PD-L1 expression. The chi-square test was performed to evaluate the relationship between clinicopathologic variables and PD-L1 expression. The log-rank test was used to determine the difference in the survival among patients with different clinicopathologic characteristics.Result:All the patients with PD-L1 expression were male, having history of smoking and dirnking, having lymphatic metastasis at the time of diagnosis. There was no significant difference between PD-L1 and age、gender、smoking history、alcohol drinking、gross type、the degree of differentiation、lymphatic metastasis、pathologic stage,P value was 0.517,0.696,0.286,0.503,0.641,0.401,0.206,0.788,respectively.There was no significant difference in DSF between PD-L1 expression positive group and negative group,P value was 0.551.And there was no significant difference in OS between PD-L1 expression positive group and negative group,P value was 0.854.Conclusions:Our results showed that PD-L1 expression status did not significantly related with age, gender, smoking history, alcohol drinking, gross type, the degree of differentiation, lymphatic metastasis and pathologic stage. In both univarite and multivarite analysis,PD-L1 expression was not a prognostic factor of overall survival and disease-free survival.
