ObjectiveTo investigate the incidence of nasal septum deviation and chronic rhinosinusitis of the junior high school students in Zhengzhou City, and to research the correlation between the two diseases.MethodsA total of 2020 junior high school students in Zhengzhou were randomly selected as the object of investigation by questionnaire,sino-nasal outcome test(SNOT-22),visual analogue scale(VAS)and nasal examination.According to the statistical results and the signs of examination,we investigate the prevalence of chronic rhinosinusitis and nasal septum deviation in junior high school students,as well as analyze the correlation between nasal septum deviation and the incidence of chronic rhinosinusitis by statistical methods.Results(1)The prevalence rate of nasal septum deviation and chronic rhinosinusitis of the junior middle school students in Zhengzhou was 31.93%(645/2020)and 6.73%(136/2020);(2)The prevalence rates of nasal septum deviationmale were 35.55%(347/976),28.12%(266/946)and 32.65%(32/98)in male students, female students and the anonymities. There was high statistical difference in prevalence between men and women(x2=12.22,P<0.01);(3)The prevalence rates of chronic rhinosinusitis were 8.30%(81/976),5.07%(48/946)and 7.14%(7/98)in male students, female students and the anonymities. There was high statistical difference in prevalence between men and women(x2=7.98,P<0.01);(4)In patients with chronic rhinosinusitis, the prevalence rate of nasal septum deviation was 40.43%(55/136).In patients without chronic rhinosinusitis,he prevalence rate of nasal septum deviation was 31.32%(590/1884).There was statistical difference between the prevalence of two groups(x2=4.86,P<0.05);(5)In patients with chronic rhinosinusitis, the prevalence rate of mild-to-moderate nasal septum deviation was 26.47%(36/136).In patients without chronic rhinosinusitis,he prevalence rate of nasal septum deviation was 23.19%(437/1884).There was no statistical difference between the prevalence of two groups(x2=0.76,P>0.05);(6)In patients with chronic rhinosinusitis, the prevalence rate of severe nasal septum deviation was 13.97%(19/136).In patients without chronic rhinosinusitis,he prevalence rate of nasal septum deviation was 8.12%(153/1884).There was high statistical difference between the prevalence of two groups(x2=7.00,P<0.01).ConclusionThe prevalence of chronic rhinosinusitis and nasal septum deviation is higher in the respondents, and the male is a risk factor for the incidence of the two diseases.Nasal septum deviation, especially the severe nasal septum,is an important correlative factor in the pathogenesis of chronic rhinosinusitis.
