Objective:To investigate the effect of PNI on prognosis and survival time in patients with esophageal carcinoma, and whether adjuvant radiotherapy can improve the survival time of patients with esophageal cancer.Methods:1160 patients who underwent esophageal surgery in the Affiliated Tumor Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University between January 2010 and August 2015 were analyzed retrospectively. The patients were divided into two groups according to with or without PNI,during which 147 cases(12.7%)were with PNI,1013 cases(87.3%)were with non-PNI.By SPSS 17.0 software analysis between the two groups of patients with clinical pathologic factors, survival time difference, and postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy can improve survival time.Results:Chi-square test showed that there were correlations between PNI and tumor infiltrating, the number of regional lymph node metastasis, stage, tumor site, degree of differentiation, pathological type, macroscopic type, presence of vascular embolization(P< 0.05).Single factor analysis found that PNI was related to the survival time(OS),further multivariate analysis revealed that neural invasion was not an independent prognostic factor.Kaplan Meier curve showed that the survival of patients with PNI was significantly lower(P=0.003?0.033).Further analysis showed that patients with PNI had longer survival time than those without adjuvant radiotherapy. Conclusions: PNI is a poor prognostic factor, with a total survival time of PNI patients, and the disease-free survival time is shortened, and postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy can significantly improve the survival time.
