Objective: To retrospectively analyze clinical features,Q-switched Nd:YAG laser treatment effect and side effects of nevus of Ota in Yunnan Province. Methods: Collected 170 patients with nevus of Ota who had seen a doctor and accepted the Q-switched Nd:YAG laser treatment in the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University in Yunnan Province from January 2011 to January 2014,and made analysis on their clinical characteristics, effect, influenced factors of laser curative effects, side effects and recurrence, etc. Results : The male to female ratio was 1:3.72. 29 patients born with nevus of Ota(16.07%),and most of patients were found to be with nevus of Ota in childhood(67.06%),and some of them with onset in their adolescence(27.06%).The proportion of patients who had nevus of Ota on both sides of the face is only 3.53%.The occurrence of Ota nevus reached the peak at the age of 0 to 1 in males and at the age of 0 to 3 and 10 to 18 year in females. All the cases of nevus of Ota were treated for 1?6 times. The cases of nevus of Ota who were treated for 4 times, according to evaluation of patients, the total effect rate was 79.99%.According to the evaluation of doctor, the total effect rate was 80%.The cases of nevus of Ota who were treated for 6 times, according to evaluation of patients, the total effect rate was 97.84%.According to the evaluation of doctor, the total effect rate was 97.85%.The number of treatments are related to effect (P< 0.001).After four treatments, patients with brown skin lesions had better effect than blue-black skin lesions.According to Tanino's classification, patients were in class I and II had better effect and the course less than ten yeas had better effect. The younger the patients age has,the higher the cure rate. The first treating age is related to effect(P<0.05).All patients were followed up for more than 6 months after the last treatment. The rate of side effect is 16.47%.According to Mishima's classification, patients with types ? are more likely to develop hyperpigmentation. The number of treatment setting rises there is also an increase in hyperpigmentation. The rate of recurrence is 6.47%.The younger the onset age is,the easier it recurs. Conclusions: Pathogenesis characteristics of Nevus of Ota in Yunnan Province, such as sex ratio and onset age, etc.are not the same with other areas, but the trend is similar.Using the Q-switched Nd:YAG laser to treat patients is safe and effective. The rate of side effect and recurrence are low.The cure rate rises with more treatments. The brown lesion had better effect.According to Tanino's classification, patients were in class ? and ? had better effect. The younger the treating age with short course duration better the results. Therefore, patients with nevus of Ota is suggested to be treated as early as possible to acheive better result.
