| Background Hepatitis EVirus(HEV)is a major cause of epidemic fecal-orally transmitted hepatitis E(HE)in areas with poor sanitary conditions.Several transfusion-transmitted cases have been described in the UK and Japan.Transfusion transmitted hepatitis E has become a serious public health problem. The risk of HEV infection from blood transfusion has raised increasing concern throughout the world.Blood donors are not routinely screened for HEV infection and no authoritative survey has been conducted. Objective To investigate the prevalence of HEV infection among Qingdao blood donors and analyze the potential risk of HEV infection through blood transfusion in Qingdao. To understand the epidemiological characteristics of hepatitis E virus infection and serological characteristics of blood donors in Qingdao. To clarify the situation of hepatitis E patients characteristics of superinfection. To provide reference for prevention of HEV infection from blood transfusion. Methods 1.Blood samples collected from donors in Qingdao, included 739 eligible blood donors, and then tested for HEV related serological parameters(anti-HEV Ig G,anti-HEV Ig M,HEV Ag).Compared HEV epidemiological characteristics of blood donors with ALT elevated group.2.Detected serological markers of hepatitis E virus in 105 blood samples collected from patients with hepatitis B infection.Compared analysis of serological characteristics of HEV superinfection with eligible donorsResults The results of serum markers of HEV infection in 739 qualified blood donors in the anti-HEV Ig G positive in 95 cases, the positive rate was 12.86%.Anti-HEV Ig M positive in 6 cases, the positive rate was 0.81%.HEVAg positive in 1 cases, the positive rate was 0.14%.ALT increased in the blood donors anti-HEV positive 109 cases, the positive rate was 13.09%(Ig G).Anti-HEV Ig M positive in 7 cases, the positive rate was0.84%,HEV-Ag positive in 1 cases, the positive rate was 0.12%.There was no significant difference in the detection rate of anti-HEV Ig G and Ig M between qualified donors and ALT(p>0.05).The age of 40 years old is significantly higher than that of low age in the eligible blood donors and ALT raised donors. In the 1572 samples which included 739 eligible blood donors and 833 simple ALT raised donors,8 samples were positive for both anti-HEV Ig G and Ig M.5 samples were only positive for anti-HEV Ig M and 2 samples were positive for HEV antigen only.Among the 105 patients with HBV infection,20 cases with HBV infection and HEV infection were included, the positive rate of HEV Ig G was higher than that of qualified donors in all groups of HBV infected patients. The highest positive rate of HEV Ig G was farmers in the eligible blood donors and HBV infected persons. Conclusion Qingdao is an endemic area for hepatitis E.Qualified donations after routine blood donor screening still carry potential risk for transmitting HEV.ALT screening has little effect on the blood screening of HEV.After the blood screening of blood donors, there is still the potential risk of transfusion transmitted HEV. |
