Objective:To explore the relationship between trefoil factor family3(TFF3)and retinopathy in patients with type 2 diabetes. To provide certain theoretical basis on clarifying the role of TFF3 in the formation of retinopathy in T2DM patients by analyzing the correlation of TFF3 and glucolipid metabolism and so on.To explore the possibility of TFF3 as a new target spot for early diagnosis, interventionin T2DM patients with retinopathy.Methods:61Patients with T2DM were divided into two groups according to the presence of retinopathy:groupDR(34 cases with retinopathy)and group NDR(27 cases without retinopathy).27 healthy individuals were served as controls(group NC).Blood pressure, height, weight, fastingplasma glucose(FPG),total cholesterol(TC),triglycerides(TG),high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c)were determined in all subjects.Body mass index(BMI)and homeostasis model assessment for insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR)were calculated.Serum TFF3 levels were measured using ELISA kits.Results:(1)Both group T2DM+DR and group T2DM+NDR had significantly elevated serum TFF3 levels(1654.14±394.04,1146.30±238.85)pg/mL relative to group NC(936.48±191.73)pg/m L(P<0.05).Group DR showed significantly higher serum levels of TFF3 compared to that of group NDR(P<0.05).(2)Correlation analysis showed that serum TFF3 was positively correlated with AGE(r=0.395,P<0.01)?SBP(r=0.286,P<0.01)?FPG(r=0.365,P<0.01)?HbA1c(r=0.347,P <0.01),and was negative correlated with HDL-C(r=?0.355,P<0.01)(3)Similarly,Logistic regression analysis showed that TFF3 and SBP(OR =1.011?1.210,P<0.05)were the independent risk factors of diabetic retinopathy.DBP and BMI(OR =0.806?0.610,P<0.05)were the independent protective factors of diabetic retinopathy.Conclusion:(1)Serum TFF3 level was remarkably increased in T2DM patients, particularly in patients with retinopathy, suggesting that TFF3 might promote the occurrence and development of atherosclerosis. It could be a useful marker of forecast of retinopathyin type 2 diabetic patients.(2)Serum TFF3 level was closely related to BMI,blood pressure, blood glucose and blood fat,so good controlling of these may decrease the level of TFF3 which possibly delay the progress of retinopathy in T2DM patients.
