Objective:Salivary gland tumors were the common and unique tumors in oral and maxillofacial region, which pathological types were complicated. The study of clinical pathological features of salivary gland tumors was great valuable to the diagnosis and treatment plan.It was to investigate the clinical pathological features of salivary gland tumors of cases in Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University in the past twenty years,to provide support and foundation for prevention and treatment of salivary gland tumors. Methods: Cases with salivary gland tumors in Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University in the past twenty years were enrolled. The types of salivary gland tumors included 10 benign and 24 malignant tumors, totally 34 tumors, according to WHO “Pathology and Genetics of Head and Neck Tumors(2005)”.The clinical pathological features were investigated, including gender, age, tumor site, constituent ratio, and so on.Cases over 65 years old were analyzed especially.Results:1.2187 Cases with salivary gland tumors in Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University from January 1,1995 to December 31,2014 were enrolled, including 1089 males and 1098 females, male to female 1:1.01.The mean age was 50,from 93 years to 10 years.Cases in 2014(191 cases)was 5.46 times of cases in 1995(35 cases).2.Most of salivary gland tumors located in parotid(72.25%,1580/2187),then submandibular gland(13.08%,286/2187),minor salivary gland(12.62%,276/2187)and sublingual gland(2.06%,45/2187).3.The top three salivary gland tumors were pleomorphic adenoma(995 cases,45.50%),Warthin's tumor(414 cases,18.93%)and adenoid cystic carcinoma(172 cases,7.86%),which were 72.29% of all cases.4.Of all salivary gland tumors,1548 cases(70.78%)were benign tumors and 639 cases(29.22%)were malignant tumors, ratio 2.42:1.Ratio of benign to malignant tumors was 2.77:1 in parotid,3.47:1 in submandibular gland,2.82:1 in minor salivary gland,0.10:1 in sublingual gland. Most of sublingual gland tumors were malignant.5.There were 172 cases with adenoid cystic carcinoma,,26.92% of malignant tumors of salivary gland.Of all adenoid cystic carcinomas, the most common age group was 51-60(55 cases,31.98%),then 41-50(48 cases,27.91%),61-70(30 cases,17.44%),31-40(19 cases,11.05%).Most of adenoid cystic carcinoma located in parotid(67 cases,38.95%),then submandibular gland(32 cases,18.60%)and submandibular gland(30 cases,17.44%).6.Cases over 65 years was 16.23% of all salivary gland tumors. The most common tumor was Warthin's tumor, then pleomorphic adenoma. The constituent ratio of malignant tumors over 65 years was higher than those below 65 years.Conclusion:1.Most of salivary gland tumors located in parotid. The top three salivary gland tumors were pleomorphic adenoma,Warthin's tumor and adenoid cystic carcinoma.2.The most common malignant tumor was adenoid cystic carcinoma, which always located in parotid, submandibular gland and submandibular gland.3.The constituent ratio of malignant tumors over 65 years was higher than those below 65 years. The most common tumor over 65 years was Warthin's tumor, then pleomorphic adenoma.
