This thesis focuses on the ending in Byeonyeok-Noguldae,a Chinese textbook used in South Korea in the 16th century which consists of Chinese,Korean phonetic symbol and Korean translation, and is aimed at establishing morphemes of prefinal ending and final Ending in it.As a conversation book filled.with colloquial words and expressions,Byeonyeok-Noguldae can vividly reflect the real image of Korean in the 16th century, contributing greatly to the study of the history of the Korean language. The previous researches on Byeonyeok-Noguldae were focused upon the comparative study of diachronic characteristics between this book and other Korean translations of Noguldae. However, more attention should be paid to the study of morphology, especially the study of how to set up morphemes in Byeonyeok-Noguldae.In this thesis,I use examples of modern Korean to discuss the step and criteria for establishing morphemes. There are four steps and two criterion for establishing morphemes. The four steps are analyzing the inflectional forms, arranging the allomorphs, verifying the feasibility of morphemes, and establishing morphemes.Besides, one criteria is that a form which has no change in any speech environment can be represented as a unique morpheme, and the other one is that when there are some allomorphs, presuming one of the morphemes as a tentative morpheme and verifying if it can explain other morphemes. If the tentative morpheme can explain other morphemes,it should be represented as a unique morpheme. On the contrary,if no tentative morpheme can be used to explain other morphemes,it will require a complex form that is able to explain each allomorph by a proper linguistic rule.According to the above steps and standards,I sort out various types of morphemes of prefinal ending and final ending in Byeonyeok-Noguldae.The morphemes of prefinal ending can be classified into three types, namely '7-(?)si-/','/-{z(?)-c(?)p-o}-/','/{(?)t-(?)si}-/',Some final endings have unique morphemes like type '/-{k,n,r,c}Y/' and type'/-{(?),(?),o}Y/'.However,other final endings have complex morphemes that can be classified into eight types,'/-X{ka-ko}/','/-X{rj(?)-rjo}/','/-X{nj(?)-njo}/','/-{t-r}Y/','/-{n(?)-(?)}Y/','/-{k(?)-(?)-na}Y/','/-{n(?)-(?}ta-la/','/-{-zo-co}/'.In addition,I discuss these final ending's morphemes according to the types of sentences like interrogative sentence, declarative sentence, exclamatory sentence, and imperative sentence. This thesis employs a new research method and reveals the deep structures of the Middle Korean's prefinal ending and final ending in the early 16th century from the perspective of morphology, and that will be conducive to the further study of the Middle Korean from phonological, syntactic and semantic perspectives.
