Under the environment of global economic integration, cooperation between China and other countries and regions becomes closer and closer. A number of Chinese expect to go abroad to enjoy different scenery and seek more opportunities. Due to cultural diversity, however, enthusiasm and aspiration do not work all the time and plenty of activities cannot achieve expected effect. Thus, it is very important to get useful information. The informative special reports are a good source to understand the specific circumstances in relevant countries.Currently, the study of English-Chinese translation mainly focuses on academic works of different disciplines and literary works, paying less attention to special reports. The writer of this translation report hopes that her own translation practice could provide the research on journalistic translation with some materials so as to prompt the journalistic English-Chinese translation and help more Chinese to know about the outside world. This translation report is based on relevant translation experience of the writer during her one-year internship in Beijing RWS Science & Technology Information Consultancy Co., Ltd.,taking as a specific example the Chinese translation of China's new dream: How will Australia and the world cope with the re-emergence of China as a great power?. In order to improve the translation of journalistic materials so as to promote mutual understanding and international communication, this report, by explicitly describing the background of the translation task, translation process and case analysis, attempts to study the journalistic English-Chinese translation from the lexical, syntactic and textual levels.By discussing the strategies and techniques of journalistic English-Chinese translation, this report draws the following tentative conclusion: during the translation of such materials, a translator should combine literal translation with free translation in order to select better translation methods according to actual situation. In addition, it depends on the translation aim, type of the source text and target readers whether the cultural factors in the source text should be kept, deleted or adjusted.By providing her own experience in translating English journalistic materials, the writer of this report hopes to give some help to other students majoring in MTI who are interested in such materials, which will hopefully increase the number of relevant translation works and improve the whole translation level in this field.
