Research On The Primitivity Of Kirchner's Painting Patterns

Primitive art has a profound influence on the modern art in the 20th century, and at the same time, it also deeply influences German expressionist represented by Kirchner. These artists attack the hypocrisy and untruthfulness in their eyes and criticize false art and secular painting style at that time by works full of primitivity to oppose art just as the decoration of beauty and the crisis of covering the reality. This paper takes the patterns of Kirchner as the research object and combines with the German historical background of overseas colonial from the late 19th to the early 20<hcentury, German romanticism national ideal and artists'fascination for traditional woodcut to analyze the source of primitivity in his works. This paper starts from the study of artists'personal experience and the theory that has a great influence on Kirchner's art concept, and then explores the theoretical basis that artists apply the primitive art to art creation. Through studying German Expressionism, Fauvism and the expression of primitiveness in Cubism works and exploring how primitive art influences Germany and France modern art in early 20th century, explain the reason why their styles are different from German Expressionism under the influence of primitive art, and it is concluded to three points:different emphasis between form and spirit, different relationship between characters and environment and different emotional expression way between manifestation and suppression.At last, this paper summarizes the value of the primitivity in Kirchner's works, and explains the expression of primitivity in Der Blaue Reiter's works at the same time as the reference of their parallel development.
