A Report On The Translation Of Introducing Translation Studies:Theories And Applications(Chapter3-4)

This report is about a translation of Introducing Translation Studies:Theories and Applications. As an introductory course book of translation studies, the source text presents a systematic introduction to the rise and development of western translation theories and thoughts. The translation report aims at discussing difficulties and strategies in the translation process of informative texts such as academic theories through adopting communicative translation theory and associating translation practice of Introducing Translation Studies:Theories and Applications.Before translation, the author has an extensive reading of the source text and finds out the potential difficulties in translation. In order to fully express the accurate and in-depth meaning of the source text while overcome the distinctions between English and Chinese culture, the author finishes this translation report under the guidance of communicative translation theory proposed by Peter Newmark, by adopting translation methods such as extension, division, inversion, change of voices, amplification, omission and so on. The translation report is composed of the following four parts:1. Background and significance of this report;2. Text analysis of the source text, including text analysis theory and the text analysis of the source text;3. Translation difficulties and translation strategies adopted to solve the difficulties, which is the core part of the report;4. Experience and lessons from the translation process and the existing problems. As the fruit of this translation report, communicative translation can be widely adopted in the translation of informational text, academic translation in particular.
