A Translation Project Report Of Regional Implications Of An Independent Kurdistan(Excerpts)

This thesis is a translation project report.The original text extracts from Regional Implications of an independent Kurdish released by Rand corporation on December 14,2016.It mainly discusses the problems which Kurdish people confront in the Middle East,giving three hypotheses related to Kurdish independence.The original text also demonstrates all the possible reactions of the three main states,including Iran,Turkey and Iraq,in the region of the Middle East under such three hypotheses.The translation of this report will help Chinese people to know more about the problems of Kurdistan and benefit the overseas interests maintenance.The source text is an informational text,which stresses the transmission of the original content more than language form itself.The key points of this translation focus on words,sentence and background knowledge.Because of many proper nouns and complicated sentence pattern in source text,the autor have to break the original sentence pattern to transmit the information of the original.Thus,the communicative translation theory proposed by Newmark,an English linguist and translator,was chose as the theoretical guidance for this translation practice.This theory more emphasizes the transmission of real effect between two different language rather than reserve the linguistic form.Regarding the word translation,the author adopts some translation methods,such as extension and transliteration.At the sentence level,the author adopts some methods including amplification,recombination and splitting,pursuing an authentic translation text.Finally,in light of the difficulties encountered in the course of translation,the author summarizes the experiences and lessons learned from this translation practice.This is the author's first experience in translating a political text.Its translation practice helps improve the author's translation skills,but it also shows that there is still deficiency in the author's final version of translation,which requires of the author the ceaseless learning and practice to uplift the author's translation proficiency in the future.
