Further development of the reform and opening-up policy accelerates the international communication and cooperation, and the development all over the world is growing into a deeper and more dynamic partnership, meanwhile the economy, politics, culture and other aspects in China have made a breakthrough development. During this era of information explosion, English, as the international common language, begins to influence the study, work and life of Chinese people. With a specific meaning, proper nouns belong to a category of nouns or noun phrases, which refer to the name of a particular person, a place, a film, an organization and so on. With the frequent international exchange of information, a growing number of proper nouns appear in English, and have been translated to Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, which influence people's work and life deeply.The historical reasons and the different cultural backgrounds as well as the different living habits among people in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan lead to the differences in the using of language, and the different translation principles and standards intensify the different versions of proper nouns that exist in the English news. As the unity of the three regions, the economical and cultural development is becoming extremely frequent. To some extent, the different versions of the translation on proper nouns can certainly block the development and progress among the three regions.In Chapter One, the author introduces the research background, objective and significance of the study as well as the research structure; in Chapter Two the author consults a large number of relevant materials at home and abroad and reviews the relevant research about proper nouns and Skopos Theory; Chapter Three is the theoretical framework for the whole thesis, in which the author introduces the Skopos Theory and its three principles, the definition and characteristics of proper nouns; in Chapter Four, the author analyzes the different translation versions of personal names, place names and film titles. Besides, under the guidance of the three principles of Skopos Theory, the author analyzes the reason and gives some translation strategies to proper nouns translation. Based on the analysis, some conclusions are drawn as follows:(1) According to the different historical reasons, cultural backgrounds and living habits among the three regions, it is reasonable and necessary for the translators from the three regions to adopt different translation strategies.(2)The unity of the language is very important to the development of the nation. In the long term, it is necessary and important for the three regions to unify the principles of translation among the three regions.
