The book Sequel of the sound and meaning of the triptaka(??????)was compiled by a monk called Xi Lin in Liao Dynasty with the content of marking the pronunciations,distinguishing the forms and interpreting the meanings for the words in the Buddhist texts collected in Kai Yuan Lu(???).When compiling this book,Xi Lin quoted many materials from different sorts of traditional academic works of China about Confucius classics,history,philosophy and literature etc.Thus this book can be regarded as a masterpiece of Buddhist glossary with great reference values for Phonology,Lexicology and Philology.At the present stage,there are many excellent academic works studying this book but only a few of them are systematic.Due to the above reason,this paper aims at making research about the quoted books andmaterials in this book form the perspectives of their forms,contents as well as quoting purposes so as to present an overall picture about it.In this book, there are 1788 quotations, among which 115 are from historical works.According to the book collected in the 45 th volume of the Tibetan tripitaka, the author of this paper build a database system about the book and makes researches about the historical materials quoted in this book. It is concluded that the materials are in three forms: the original texts, annotations and original texts plus annotations from such works.And there are both similarities and differences between the quotations and the original resources, the differences include variants, summarization, borrowing, errors and turn interpretation. The author spares no efforts to demonstrate the quotations from historical books systematically to reveal the reveal the values about this book on linguistics and philology, etc.
