A Research Of Aquinas' S Human Essence Theory

Thomas Aquinas is a great scholastic philosopher and theologian. His theory relates to natural theology, ethics, religion, hominology and so on.In the leadership of Albert, he uses Aristotle?s philosophy creatively. In the most part of his book, he comments on Aristotle?s theory. And the two most prestigious theological works include “Summa Theological” and “Summa Contra Gentiles”.He insists that theology exceeds philosophy. He makes the Christian philosophy and the Aristotle?s philosophy together, established a sophisticated system of scholasticism.This paper mainly discusses the theory of hominology. The key point in the theory is to emphasize on the "integrate person". Aquinas?s philosophy system includes the essence of the soul, the relationship between soul and body, the ability of soul and the will and so on. This paper is based on the hominology part of Summa Theological, giving a statement of ethical thinking and practical significance.This paper is divided into four sections. The first chapter analyses the dual human science tradition that influences Aquinas from the aspect of ancient Greek hominology tradition and Christian hominology tradition respectively. The second chapter bases on the metaphysics, discuss the soul, the body, and the combination of the two making an “integrate person". Chapter three discusses perceptual and rational on the epistemology level. The unity of them makes a further argument on the "integrate person". The last part of the article explains the significance and value.In Aquinas?s hominology theory, his stresses on the human body and the ?integrate? people exceed the traditional western human science. In the meanwhile, his theory of hominology makes a great contribution on Christian religion. It has great guiding significance in the environment of comprehensive development and harmonious society.
