“Most of our behaviors originate from ignorance rather than malignance. ”Culture often plays a major role in communication, however, people's ignorance on this situation is more serious than we might imagine. As a cultural carrier which concerns the inherent connotation of national culture in existing research objects, literature should be a significant field in cross-cultural communication. As a consequence, this thesis starts from Chinese-American group's cultural estrangement in Amy Tang's The Joy Luck Club, explores Chinese-American life experience in the intersection between Chinese and American cultural circles, then discusses the roots of cultural conflicts by enquiring from mother-daughter conflicts to the deep structure of Sino-US culture, and reveals the conclusion that in heterogeneous cultural backgrounds, only through the profound understanding on the essence of other's culture can we eliminate cultural barrier, improve cultural awareness and intercultural communication competence. At last,on the basis of this novel's inspiration, i will put foward some categaries of intercultural communication.
