The Conversational Analysis Of Empresses In The Palace Based On Politeness Principle

Since the nineties of last century, the TV drama has gradually become a new way to show the social culture, according to its vivid, three-dimensional, intuitive features. In 2012, Empresses in the Palace was widely broadcast, and its representative works became a hot research topic in the academic field. Lots experts and scholars have made interpretation of it from the perspective of Pragmatics. In this paper, through dialogue analysis of Empresses in the Palace the deficiency in the theory of Leech politeness principle has been improved based on the deep study of the politeness principle of Leech and the theory of context. At the same time, the application of the politeness principle of Leech in the context of the Chinese language is explored.The research work of this paper is mainly reflected in the following aspects:First of all, the context of Empresses in the Palace is discussed from the drama of the story, the story content and complex interpersonal relationships, etc. The analysis shows the following points. The background of the drama is a general guide to the behavior of interpersonal communication. The content of the drama is helpful to understand the implication and plot. And the complex interpersonal relationship which is caused by the social distance and the power difference has a direct impact on the pragmatic strategies.Secondly, based on the politeness principle of Leech, the Empresses in the Palace dialogue is analyzed, and three defects which are the essential attributes, the overlap of connotation concept and the application are summarized. In the aspect of application, the context factor has not been discussed which is considered the prominent problem. The lack of context directly leads to the impropriety of the application in Chinese culture. Therefore, this paper makes a supplement and improvement to the application of the politeness principle of Leech under the context of the Chinese language.Finally, this paper discusses the impact of the use of politeness principle respectively from three aspects: the drama background, drama content, complex relationships. And taking the social distance and power relation as the breakthrough point, the paper emphatically discusses the influence of interpersonal relationship on the operation of politeness principle. In the end, the specific influence of politeness principle on the dialogue of the characters is discussed in the case of address language.
