With the globalization and the influence of world economy integration,cross-cultural communication becomes more and more frequent and popular nowadays. In recent years, as China's economy booms, and its international status and international influence being enhanced, the culture soft power of our nation is also enhanced gradually. Benefit from the trend of times, the quality of our home-made audiovisual product has improved greatly. However, many westerners just can recognize few classical films of 1990 s. Therefore, our home-made audiovisual product still has a long way to go in the international market. Apart from the exquisite film technique in western countries, high-quality subtitle translation contributes a lot to the success and popularity of western films. The study of subtitle translation started from 1930 s in the west. However, up to now, it is still a new field in China. Vermeer who is a famous translation theorist in Germany. There are three rules in Skopostheorie including Skopos Rule, Coherence Rule and Fidelity Rule. According to Skopostheorie, Skopos Rule is placed above both Coherence and Fidelity Rule. From the perspectives of Skopostheorie and the analysis of features and limitedness of subtitle, the thesis has studied subtitle translation of the hottest Chinese TV series Empresses in the Palace with the approach of qualitative analysis. On the basis of the interview materials of Director Zheng Xiaolong, the Skopos of this subtitle translation is introducing Chinese culture to the western audience.Under the guidance of Skopostheorie, the author has proposed six translation strategies for dealing with this subtitle translation, which are Generation,Specification, Paraphrase, Literal Translation, Reduction and Addition.
