Yuewei Cottage Notes is a classical Chinese novel in the Qing dynasty written by Ji Xiaolan who is the master of Authorized Books,being proficient in Confucianism,comprehending theories of different schools,created a plain and light aesthetic style of fiction which inherit the characteristics of Tales of human and ghost in Northern and Southern Dynasty.In light of this,based on Yuewei Cottage Notes,taking “Confucian scholars” image as the start point,adopting the way of “literature-historiography” interaction,the Confucian scholar images have been studied.There are five parts in this article:In the first part,the article,combining the original works of Confucianism and reality in the Ming and Qing dynasties,defined “Confucian scholars” who are living in the lower class of society,based on neo-confucianism as the background,with the imperial officials as a goal in life.Then,the article reviewed the the history and present situation of “Confucian scholars”: the objection from the Qing dynasty neo-confucianism guard,one-sided analysis before the 80's,extensive research after the 80's,although the interrelated researches have been developing,not formed a system,only focusing on certain type of Confucian scholars;In the second part,scholars are divided into five categories according to their characteristics: wise man,sage,swinger,pedant,hypocritical person.For each type of Confucian scholars,according to the definition connotation,to determine the number,summarizes the characteristics of sequence sorting,summarized and evaluated.In the third part,the art creation feature of Confucian scholars was summarized as reference from biography about some historical figures;bookishness,characterization and deliberativity of scholars' tone;continuity,detail and specificity of their behaviors;contrast technique and psychological description.In the fourth part,view on Scholars was summarized four aspects: solid study,etiquette,officialdom and fatalism.The objective cause is the change of general mood of scholars,and the subjective cause lies in Ji Xiaolan's multiple identities of official,scholar and senior.In the fifth part,the article comparing with Ghost Stories,the differences are temperament,attitude,criterion,reason for failure.The similarities lie in the criticism to unhealthy general mood and aspiration engaging in politics.The article comparing with The Scholars,the differences are layman and hypocritical person,sage and actual person,the choice of their future.The similarities lie in the critics to Moralists and the contradiction to atmosphere of study.In a word,the characteristics of scholars in The Yuewei Cottage Notes possess bookishness,noble gas,debating.
