The Present Situation And Development Ideas Of Online Confucius Institute (Russian Version)

As people all around the world rush to learn Chinese and Chinese culture, in 2008, Confucius Institute Headquarters(Hanban) set up a new online platform to teach Mandarin and promote Chinese culture overseas, which was, the Confucius Institute Online. The development of technology as well as the scarcity of teaching resources has given rise to the necessity of teaching Chinese online. However, at present, there exist little scholarly works concentrating on the Confucius Institute Online. This research studies the CIO (Russia), and summarizes the current situation, based on a survey with questionnaires conducted in Russian-speaking areas. This paper intends to understand the needs of Chinese language learners in Russian-speaking areas with respect to online Chinese language teaching and the CIO, and to propose suggestions and ideas for future development of the CIO (Russia), in hoping that the establishment of the CIO (Russia) could be further improved and publicized.This study employs observation, questionnaires and interviews. To investigate the current state of the CIO (Russia), I distribute questionnaires to Chinese language learners in Russian-speaking areas and local teachers. Together with my observation, I conclude the advantages and the imperfections of the CIO (Russia), and attempt to give suggestions from a macro point of view.The research results show that:firstly, comprehensiveness, accessibility and low cost are important features of the CIO (Russia), which can practically offers help for users to learn Chinese language and experience Chinese culture.Secondly, the CIO (Russia) is underutilized in Russian-speaking areas, due to problems in terms of the language, the search navigation and so on.Based on the aforementioned findings, this paper puts forward several suggestions on the construction of the website from a macro level, which include enhancing visibility in Russian-speaking areas, building "country-specific" website for minority languages, providing free resources and VIP courses, developing APP and others, so as to promote further construction and development of the CIO (Russia).
