Chinese movies have transferred to a new generation since 21st century, in recent years, a growing number of films directed by females, who are now acting as a new emerging forces in Chinese movie directors, appear in the film market. There are about seventeen new generation female directors in the mainland, Examples of those directors including Xiaolu Xue, Shuhua Yao, Wei Zhao, etc, Also, about eighteen new generation female directors appear in Taiwan, such as, Meillng Zhou, Yuya Wang, Naizheng Ding, etc. The development of new generation female directors bring surprises to the whole society. People usually focus on individual movie when investigating new generation female directors. Besides, a few researchers investigate new generation female directors based on feminism. However, a systematic investigation of the new generation female directors both in mainland and Taiwan is still in absence.This essay focuses on the history background, working environment, and the current conditions in which new generation female directors both in mainland and Taiwan are brought up with. The purpose of this exploration is to research the topic of the female directors’ movies as well as an analyst of audio-visual language. There are five parts in this paper. The first part introduces the aim and meaning of the research, References and the general idea of the essay are also provided in the first part. In the second part, a general history background information in which new generation female directors both in mainland and Taiwan were raised are explained. A definition of those new generation female directors are also given. At the same times the state those female directors have while creating films are also explained in this part. The third part investigates the thematic implication of those female directors. Vivid thematic implication as well as typical character for a specific time period is a main feature of the movie created by them. What they convey is focusing on the emotional experiences. For example, the sources of those movies are related to their juvenile experiences and life experiences. They not only depict the environment in which they grow up, but also convey their understanding-of the whole society in their movies. The thinking pattern of the new generation female directors has changed greatiy compared with previous female directors. The majority of those new generation female directors were raised in a time period in which the whole society is experiencing transition. Therefore, the traces of transition can be found in those films, which is typical for that time period. In recent years, with the influence of abused amusement, new generation female directors lay emphasis on the expression of emotion. The unique sensitive for female directors are presented in the trivial parts of the film. The fourth part is mainly analyzing the world of image, exploring the relationship between the thesis and audio-visual relationship. The fifth part concentrates on films such as Buddha Mountain and Pathway of Youth. Commercial movies, like Our Times and So Young are also investigated in the last part. The last part summarizes the whole thesis. The artistry of female directors both in mainland and Taiwan varies greatly. Many directors in mainland obey the way in which they initially use to express their feelings in the film, they use a way in which in accordance with the audiences’preference. However, directors in Taiwan are immersed in their artistic explorations. Despite those facts we are encountering nowadays, the creation of the artistic work both in mainland and Taiwan still plays a vital role in the development of Chinese films both in mainland and Taiwan. We should give credit for the new generation films. Furthermore, we are also looking forward to the perfect films they create in the future. Hope that all the investigations in this paper will provide reference value for the future development of new generation female directors both in mainland and Taiwan.
