The body,as an important aesthetic category in the postmodern context, has received more and more attention from scholars, and in the long history of human development, the female body has always borne rich and diverse meanings, and is therefore typical for research. As a special historical time and space in modern Chinese history, the prosperity of Shanghai seemed to be affected during the "isolated island" period from November 12,1937 to December 8,1941,and various commercial magazines and advertisements displaying the aesthetics of women’s bodies experienced a brief downturn and blow, and then appeared to be exceptionally active again as the economy recovered. After a brief downturn, commercial magazines and advertisements showcasing the beauty of women’s bodies were once again active as the economy recovered. With the rise of a group of female writers in the literary field, the female body aesthetic was presented in a different way,as female writers wrote about the female body and its desires, revealing the truth that the female body was hidden and disciplined. As an "isolated island",Shanghai’s complex and severe political environment and abnormal prosperous social economy gave birth to a unique and colorful "isolated island" art space that was different from other regions of the country, and a unique literary space was thus created. As a female writer who emerged during this period,Eileen Zhang’s works received enthusiastic attention from readers upon release.Focusing on Eileen Zhang’s novels, this paper explores the aesthetic phenomenon of women’s bodies in the isolated island period of Shanghai, revealing the truth about the concealment and discipline of women’s bodies at that time, and affirming Eileen Zhang’s positive role in the liberation of women’s bodies and the awakening of women’s consciousness. The first introductory chapter describes the origin of the author’s topic and its research significance, and focuses on the history and current status of research on Eileen Chang’s literary works, thus supporting the significance of the topic. The second chapter gives an account of the real situation of women’s bodies in the isolated island period of Shanghai, explores the process of women’s bodies from concealment to surfacing on the historical ground in two parts, and affirms the positive influence of Eileen Zhang’s writing on women’s bodies on the emancipation of women’s subject consciousness and their body consciousness.Chapter 3 reveals Eileen Zhang’s aesthetic conception of the female body through an analysis of the representation, situation, and behavior of the female body in Eileen Zhang’s novels.Chapter 4 reflects on the aesthetic conception of the female body embodied in Eileen Chang’s novels, reveals the process and truth of the long-standing regulation of the female body and looks directly at women’s bodily aspirations, and explores the appropriate aesthetic schema of the body for contemporary women, thus helping women’s bodies to further liberate and gain freedom. |
