Schema theory is a theory of explaining ways of representing human knowledge, and which degree that knowledge can be helpful to knowledge application.Accordin g to this theory, all knowledge can be divided into different units, constituted into "ch unks" and formed into systems. These units, "chunks" and systems form the schema.According to the different characteristics, schemes are generally divided into three ki nds: language schema, content schema and formal schema. Making use of these char acteristic could let schemes play a relevant role in the various stages of consecutive i nterpreting.Gile has pointed out that consecutive interpretation is a multitasking com municating activities, which can be divided into two phases. The first phase is a coordination of simultaneous listening, note-taking, short-ter m memory process for interpreter. The second phase is to coordinate simultaneous memories, notes, interpretation process. Information Reorganization goes through these two phases of consecutive in terpretation, as a result, the information reorganization takes a considerable position in consecutive interpretation.Information reorganization process is essentially information analysis, compreh ension and reprocessing.During this process, schema theory plays an important role. Using of schema theory effectively can help interpreters to understand the original m eaning and to reorganize information in translating process, and to improve translatin g efficiency and quality in consecutive interpretation.Gill pointed out that the inform ation reorganization of consecutive interpreting in multitasking mode includes two p arts:understanding recombination and output recombination. The study found that the schema theory has significant guidance for information reorganization.Firstly, schema help interpreters predict later part of the speech and st rengthen memory.During this process, a knowledge schemata could help interpreters to react more quickly and respond the information they've heard more accurately, memorizi ng on the basis of understanding. Schema plays a key role in information identificati on, retention, reorganization. Secondly, in the process of output reorganization, the sc hema have a guiding function for the aim of language expressions and language orga nizations. This essay describes guiding role of schema theory in interpreting information r eorganization with application examples. This essay hope to provide a guidance in le arning and practicing consecutive interpreting for interpreters, to help to enhance thei r abilitiesin listening comprehension, short-term remembering and language generati ng and complete high-quality consecutive interpreting.
