A Translation Report On Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Motors With Field-Weakening Control Method

With the further development of strategic partnership between nations, economic and technical cooperation between countries appear to be more and more frequent. China, as a young developing country, now is starting to try to cooperate with other countries on the field which never be involved in the past few decades. The motor field is reckoned to be an example. During few decades of development in China, the motor field can be described as developing rapidly,and the motor trade has continued cooperating with foreign countries. As translation is inevitably applied to the import and export trade and technical cooperation in the motor field, the study on English translation practice is of great theoretical significance on motor field.In China, translation researches, which concerns to PERMANENT-magnet synchronous motors and field-weakening control method, are very few. Therefore,this translation project can provide rich and valuable documental reference, as well as expanding experience for relevant personnel in motor field. At the same time, it broadens their research horizons and promotes the development of motor field domestically and internationally.The translator, by combining Nida's functional equivalence theory, analyzed the text characteristics of scientific documents of the motor category in the translation practice, including characteristics in terms of words, sentences and impersonal sentences and so forth. Moreover, the difficulties arising in the translation process, such as selection of meaning and translation strategies, were also studied in this paper so that translation could be sure of faithfulness,expressiveness, and in line with expression habits of Chinese language. This report summarizes some experience and skills during translation process, which can be taken as reference for future translation of same type. Focused on the features of books relevant to motor, the conclusion could be drawn that the text should be classified as scientific translation text on motor field, therefore, the translation should permeate authenticity and objectivity. With the integration of own translation strategies, according to the translation problems encountered in English translation for science and technology, this paper summed up several translation skills which should be used, for example, division, omission, reverse translation, splitting and others. Because a lot of technical terms are embodied in this paper, furthermore, this paper is full of professional knowledge and terminologies, lots of information on technical terms are added in the process of translation with the purpose to eliminate dyslexia, obtain the equivalent translation information of the original text as much as possible. The outcome of translation in this paper has certain theoretical and practical significance for the future translation practice and teaching of motor text, meanwhile, it provides a practical reference for other translators, and is directive on motor studying for professionals.
