A Study Of The New Period Reception Of Mr.KANG Youwei's Guang Yi Zhou Shuang Ji

Mr. KANG Youwei is regarded as the master of steleology study in the late Qing Dynasty and his book Guang Yi Zhou Shuang Ji is a big milestone as well as a logical starting point in the history of Chinese calligraphy theory study. Based on the core calligraphy thought of "variation", Mr. Kang put forward the proposal of "respect stone tablet but restrict inscriptions" and "admire Wei Dynasty but dishonor Tang Dynasty". He absorbed RUAN Yuan's and BAO Shichen's theories and finally made a great achievement which developed steleology to its highest peak in the late Qing Dynasty. The book has drawn people's great attention for more than 120 years from its finished to now in academia. It's extraordinary that the book was widely circulated again and many scholars continued researching and studying it even after being prohibited by the authorities in Qing Dynasty.During the academic research of Guang Yi Zhou Shuang Ji, various research findings related to Mr. Kang and his book appear. Influenced by the aesthetic style of the times, the researchers focus on different spheres. Among which, the breadth and depth of content research in the New Period (since 1978) was far more than ever. The investigation shows that the reception form Mr. KANG Youwei and his calligraphy theory is becoming more and more diverse. In addition to the theoretical research, people do social practice about calligraphy exhibition, academic forums, seminars, teaching and take measures to protect local traditional culture and set up creative industrial park.Throughout the reception of the new period, it generally shows that the contents of the theory research was being translated from the basic research to a deeper level, and the focus extends to some other relative cultural idea in academic contradistinctive view; the reception form has a diversification trend, people join in the relative social activities and practice instead of traditional book research and theory. Based on the current social culture development background, the main motivation for reception can be attributed to the inner logic and development of calligraphy theory research and the need of the local cultural development and construction.Nowadays, it still has practical significance to the reception of Mr. KANG Youwei and his Guang Yi Zhou Shuang Ji. People can abstain and make good use of the profound understanding of Mr. Kang's calligraphy and academic thought as well as inheriting the extensive utilization.Theory analysis and the field survey are used in this paper in order to summarize the feature of the reception of Mr. Kang Youwei and the book in the New Period, and try to explore its reality significance and promote the continuous and further research of reception.
