In recent years, the source text— Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner, with this culture values, wins high praise around the world. And it is also beloved by our Chinese readers and ranked first in literary bestseller list of mainland in 2008.The interpreter Li Jihong's efforts play an indispensable role.Through a detailed comparison of the TT with the ST,it is found that the interpreter managed to make his horizon closer to the horizon of the ST and show the result of fusion in the TT,which is in accordance with Gadamer's fusion of horizon.According to Gadamer, translation is an extreme example of interpreting.More particularly, translating is the process in which the translator with his historicity fuses his own horizon with that of the ST in a cross-cultural historical context and forms a new horizon, and then he constructs a new text, namely, the TT,by using the newly acquired horizon in the target language, which is soaked with the TC.In the process of understanding and translating, the interpreter must create conditions to fuse his horizon with the ST,and make the TT express the result of fusion of horizon. The application of fusion of horizon into the studies of cross language culture is mainly to find the correspondence between the target text and the source text.Through a comparison of the TT with the ST,it is discovered that the interpreter had achieved fusion with the ST to a great extent at the level of culture, environment description, mental depiction and writing style. Thus,it starts from the four themes exploring the fusion of horizon in the process of translation.Li Jihong does do an excellent work.He chose the most appropriate translation strategies, tried to maintain the characteristics of the source text, showed the contents of the source text,so that the target text readers have the same feelings as the source text readers. Therefore,we can draw the conclusion that in the process of literarytranslation, the fusion of horizons between the translator and the source text is inevitable. All in all, what it cares about in this thesis is the fusion of horizon in the process of translation.Although the culture turn in translation studies emphasizes the uniqueness of national culture and though the translator-centered theoretic paradigm focuses on the interpreter's subjective initiative and creativity, even rewriting of the ST,by means of empirical and objective description,it can be proved that text translation in essence is based on the ST and the full demonstration of the elements of the ST is also a kind of active play of subjective initiative of the interpreter himself. The interpreter's identification and reproduction of the cultural characteristics of the ST are also the greatest respect and publicity of the original culture. It contributes to communication between different cultures with the help of the TT.
