The Cognitive Research Of Dimension Adjectives In Shuo Tang Quan Zhuan

"Shuo Tang Quan Zhuan" is vernacular novel in the Qing dynasty with a frequently use of oral language.There is no research of the adjectives in this book before.Dimension adjective is a small class from the angle of the semantic.By useing the theories of cognitive linguistics and drawing lessons from the existing relevant results,we will do the semantic,syntactic description of the dimension adjectives in Shuo Tang Quan Zhuan,and analyze its symmetry and asymmetry.The main content of this article includes the following four parts:Chapter 2 describes and explains the lexicon research.We mainly summariz the 14 dimension adjectives in Shuo Tang Quan Zhuan,classify them from the perspective of cognitive dimensions,and analyze its distinctive semantic features of[+distance].Chapter 3 describes and analyzes from the semantic level.We do the semantic description and the the cognitive domain analysis.We analyze the metaphorical senses and the metonymical meaning one by one.It turns that there are four types of metaphor path,container metaphor,orientational metaphor,behavior metaphor and synaesthetic metaphor.Chapter 4 analyze from the syntactic level.It is focused on-the analyses of the measurement format,the collocation with adjectives,nouns and verbs of these 14 dimension adjectives in this book.Chapter 5 mainly summarize the symmetry and asymmetry.Its symmetry concentrated in the analysis of the cognitive domain.The asymmetry mainly embodied in word formation,syntactic and semantic features.The word-building ability of high quantity dimensionl adjective is higher than low quantity dimension adjectives.On the syntactic function,every word act as a different syntax function.
