The Research Of China Export Paintings That Depicted The Street Characters Of Canton

Before the invention of photography,painting as a tool of recording facts,were more intuitive than written records,and both universality and artistic quality.In the late 18 th to the early 19 th century in Canton,China,there was a group of active folk painters in the export paintings market,contacted and learned western realistic painting techniques.Than they applied it to the paintings that depicted Chinese real subjects,gaving the paintings a presentation that were combined features of Chinese with Western styles.Because most buyers of these pictures were Europeans in that time,currently,the paintings have been become the exhibits of the Foreign galleries and museums,or private collections.In recent years,despite Chinese academics,collectors have given more attetion to these overseas China export paintings,and the number of related researches and literatures are increasing.However,by looking through the materials which have been collected,the author found that Chinese scholars are mostly limited to the range within the western research results,which Lack of innovation perspectives.The study of export painting style is still belongs to the weak section,so the author studied such characterful painting category from the perspective of painting techniques.By browsing various topics of paintings,the author finally decided to focus on the paintings of the street trades of Canton,which were populared from the late 18 th to the early 19 th century.Emphatically analyzing the characteristics of these paintings,summarizing the causes of the formation of style.Integrating the historical developing and the demands of market economy.To comprehensively and objectively summarized the valus of theses paintings.This paper was not only analysed the perspective,the light and the shadow that presented in the pictures base on traditional Chinese painting,but also combined with the western painting development stage,analyzed the influences of western drawing skills at that time.In addition,in order to emphasize the artistic value and the meaning of existence of China export paintings,the author also made a comparison between such paintings and the scroll paintings from the court.The author hopes this thesis can cause the attention of academia,about the china export paintings on the late 18 th to the early 19 th century,more and more scholars study them from diversified views and make objective evaluation about the professional painters of China export paintings.
