Comparative Research Between Malagasy FIHAVNANA Proverbs And Chinese Unity Proverbs

A proverb is a kind of idiom. Proverbs are the essence of a nation's wisdom. In the process of learning Chinese, proverb is a very important symbol. China and Madagascar are two countries with rich proverbs. In the Chinese society, unity is a very important concept, so there are many proverbs about unity in Chinese. FIHAVANANA is the most important social value of Malagasy people. For Malagasy, the meaning of FIHAVANANA is unity, so there are many proverbs about FIHAVANANA. FIHAVANANA and unity are two concepts which have common and individual characteristics.This present thesis makes a comparative research about the meaning, rhetorical devices and social values of the FIHAVANANA and Chinese solidarity proverbs. The FIHAVANANA proverbs and Chinese solidarity proverbs have similar meaning in expression content, but in terms of expression there are similarities and differences. Also, these proverbs are inseparable with rhetoric. In the social culture, they have an important position, because they serve as education tools for people and remind them about the importance of solidarity.Finally, to help Malagasy students to learn and understand Chinese solidarity proverbs, the author proposes three areas proverb teaching methods:semantic teaching methods, pragmatic teaching methods and cultural teaching methods.In conclusion, learning Chinese solidarity proverbs can improve Malagasy students with their Chinese communication level and can also enhance their understanding of Chinese culture.
