Research Of Facial Attractive Characteristics And The Influence Mechanism Among Undergraduates With Different Sexual Orientation

It's well to known that face convey a lot of personal information, widely affecting people's quality of life, which also has important social value. In the existing literature at home and abroad, many scholars explore the reaction of heterosexual participants judging heterosexual faces, mainly from performance characteristics,generation mechanism and influence factors of facial attractiveness. While, there is little research involved in homosexuals. On account of being different to heterosexuals in the potential sexual partners for homosexuals, they are likely to show a preference for same-sex faces. This study aim at to verify whether same-sex faces are more attractive for gays and lesbians, analyzing on the characteristics of judging facial attractiveness among college students with different sexual orientation,exploring the factor how social behavior evaluation shows the impact on assessing the appeal of faces, looking forward to deeply reflect on the problem of molding the image of homosexual community from the perspective of social behavior evaluation.In this study, 112 college students from universities in Nanchang were recruited as the research subjects, including 25 homosexuals. By using experimental research,which covering two parts, the first study analyzing the sexual orientation difference of college students judging and evaluating the facial attractiveness. The second one, face images labeled with heterosexuality or homosexuality, expect to probe the factor how social evaluation shows the impact on assessing the appeal of faces. Key findings are listed as follow:1. The attractiveness of heterosexual face images appealing to college students with different sexual orientation show obvious difference, heterosexual face being more attractive to heterosexual participants, while, gays and lesbians furthermore having a preference for homosexual face images.2. Gays and lesbians display longer reaction time and higher ratings of same-sex faces, showing the preference for homosexual faces; heterosexual men and womenhave longer reaction time and higher ratings to faces with different sex, showing the preference for heterosexual faces.3. The charm of face images for college students from different sexual orientation under the influence of social behavior evaluation, compared with the negative face image, the subjects rating higher rank for attractiveness of positive comments on face image.4. Under the condition of positive comments, the attractiveness of female faces is rated higher, while, in negative evaluation, the lesbian faces with the highest ratings of appeal, male face with the lowest grade.5. Heterosexuals show higher ratings of attractiveness to the heterosexual sex face spoken highly, gays and lesbians express higher ratings to homosexual with positive comments, what's more, homosexuals rating higher on the same-sex faces with negative evaluation than heterosexuals.
