From 1980 s to the beginning of this century, higher vocational education began to develop rapidly and become one of the most important part of higher education in China. Nowadays, however, higher vocational education teaching still has a lot of disadvantages of insufficient manpower, so how to improve the methods of teaching calls the attention of many scholars. English reading is the core of English subject, and also the comprehensive reflection of listening, speaking, reading and writing, which means a lot. Students’ reading skills are essential for their information input, so the higher vocational English teaching has always put the reading ability of students in the first place, in order to help the students to open the door of English learning. However, traditional teaching method cannot arouse students’ interest and motivation, which stresses too much on cramming and mechanization. A new teaching method which emphasize on communicative language teaching and English inquiry learning is gradually centered. This method encourages students to use language to do things, in the completion of the task language process, teachers can excavate the students latent capacity through the self-action of the students. Thus, develop the students’ communication, collaboration, implementation and innovation ability, training students’ language skills, in order to achieve the purpose of the language task.Finally this paper analyses the practice of testing. The writer used two teaching classes in Sichuan Vocational and Technical College of Communications to do the experiment, the A class uses the task-based teaching method, while B uses the traditional English teaching method for a period of four months. Four months later, the two classes take an exam of English reading comprehension. The results shows that A students English learning consciousness and initiative are greatly improved, learning ability is enhanced, students can complete the reading course, and they generally get high scores, while B students’ learning attitude is still as usual, there is no obvious change, and the test result is obviously behind the A class. The analysis results show that although the higher vocational students’ English foundation is weak, if using the correct teaching method can improve students’ initiative, helping students learn knowledge in action. Also, can improve the confidence and enthusiasm of learning English in the course of action, and improve the team cooperation ability, which will do good to the students when they come to the society.However, task based teaching method in English Reading Teaching in higher vocational colleges still exists many problems, and how to apply task-based teaching method more reasonably and widely is still under question. Which appeals much attention is that how to effectively integrate other teaching methods with task-based teaching method. These problems have to be further researched and explored. |
