The North-western Journey:Zhao Wangyun's Painting Style Formation And It's Impact

From the middle ancient times till the modern times, the North-western region hasn't ever been China's richest place, and, of course, hasn't ever been the place which is easy to access. But because of it's profound heritage and unique geographical landscape, a lot of artists have passed the North-western region. They used the meanings of art to express their deep love to this land. This paper attempts to arrange and summarize the process of Mr. Zhao Wangyun's artistic activities, as example, in those days in the North-western region; analyzes characteristics of his artistic style, which appear in the sketches from nature, made during his travelling in the North-western region, including sketches(notes) of the North-western steep magnificent natural landscape and detailed depiction of the North-western ethnic minorities and their life. Hereby this paper deeply inquires into the influence of Mr. Zhao Wangyun's visit on the North-western art and culture, at the same time, it researches the impact of the North-western unique geographical landscape on Mr. Zhao Wangyun's artistic career. Further,it explains why Mr. Zhao Wangyun is supposed to be a pioneer, who initiates a new artistic tendency – Chinese painting reflects the reality of life. The main point is that his innovative spirit, when he faced life and faced reality, excavated subjects and themes for the painting in the North-western region. At the same time, his sketches, painted during the travelling, and realistic style especially attracted people's attention. That's why he is a new tendency's representative figure, who opened up mass-oriented art in Chinese modern painting history.Mr. Zhao Wangyun occupies an important position in the history of modern Chinese painting development. He opened up a new page in the history of Chinese art.
