The passing away of time and aging are the rules of nature, no one can escape. In the face of senium, the amorous and sensitive poets usually sighed with deep emotions. BAI Juyi, a notable poet in Mid-Tang period of ancient China, either praise or plaint, he expressed his inner feelings and views in terms of senium in many of his poems. And no matter praise or plaint, herein, all these peoms would be reduced to and termed as the aging-related peoms, taking as the objects of this study.Actually, the aging-related peoms can not be simply classified into praise or plaint, but combined to some extent. When complainting, he often bound other miseries together with aging, such as the physical pain owing to illnesses, frustration in official career, strong yearnings toward kith and kin, as well as the regret without a son. All these were the miseries accompanied him along with aging. Similarly, when praising, a number of joys would be related accordingly, including drinking, playing the zither and versification, which gave great fun to his old age.Additionally, the aging-related peoms of BAI also showed superb artistic skills. Regarding imageries, mirrors, hair and beard were frequently employed to allude age. In terms of language,colloquialism and numeral were highly preferred. For rhetoric, analogy,rhetoric questions and reduplication were the basic tactics. Moreover, the phraseologies like argumentum, underdrawing and the combination of emotion with scenery made the aging-related peoms smooth, reasonable and philosophical.For BAI, there are a large number of peoms that related to aging. The social background and the inheritance of predecessors are the mains reasons for plaint. While confiding to peers, the admiration to Yuanming Tao and the understanding towards Buddhism and Laotze's thoughts for praise.
