The Research On Poetry Of Night Images In Song Dynasty

The word "image" appears frequently in ancient literary theory. The choice of images directly relates to the aesthetic mood and emotional tendency that the author wants to express. The image of "night" is favored by poets of Song poetry, which bears all kinds of worries of scholars in two Song Dynasties.Literature in two Song Dynasties, few of the self-confidence and sense of power the Tang Dynasty, inclines to be indifferent, and its artistic conception tends to become depressed and helpless, especially in the poetry with the image of "night". Although the tranquility of night eases scholars’mood, the loneliness at night further triggers their deep sadness. Therefore, the analysis to the images of "night" not only reflects literary style at that era, but also the inner world of scholars. Taking the history of song dynasty, more than 300 years, as ordinate, and two dynasties, southern and Northern Song, as abscissa, starting from the dimension of the night image, and taking Song poems as its carrier, this paper profoundly explores the rich and specific meaning hidden behind the image of "night".The paper is divided into four parts, mainly focusing on the analysis of aesthetic conception and emotional connotation conveyed out from Song poetry. Aesthetic conception can be further divided into three types, cold loneliness, dim and quiet environment, limpid and transparent environment. These three types lay the basic tone of Song poetry. This image creates good mood for scholars to express their emotions. Later, the author further analyzes poets’complex and profound emotional connotation, make classification for them so as to explore why image of "night" frequently appears in Song poetry, which has become one of its major features.This paper takes "full song" as its major research text, mainly reading and researching the role of "night" image in Song poetry. This paper discloses scholar unique aesthetic tendency on the use of images and discusses their psychological state and national cultures when scholars were doing literary creation. Through digging into performance characteristics of night image and reasons of frequently using night image, it reaches the effect of understanding the art value and ideological value of night image in Song poetry.
