The methods of iconography and field investigation are employed in this paper to examine the historical evolution and designing styles of Mansheng Teapots Then,by comparative analysis between the works of contemporary designers and Mansheng Teapots,the influence that Mansheng Teapots have exerted on contemporary designing is revealed as well.The conclusion is stated as follows:According to the iconography study,the shape characteristics of Mansheng Teapots can be concluded as follows:brown is the main consideration in material selection and the color is close to that of the cliff stone;In terms of shapes.Mansheng Teapots feature natural shapes and leave blankness on the bodies of teapots,on which inscriptions about classic poems are carved.The designers' names will be sealed at the bottom of the teapots and that of the producers under the pots handles.With regard to the integral styles,concision is given special attention with preferred images selected from natural plants or geometric drawings.Besides,the conceptive Buddhist inscriptions tend to evoke a sense of elegance and present the literatus' taste as well.Based on literature review about social economic and political situations in Qing Dynasty and Chen Hongshou's past experience,the typical characteristics of Mansheng Teapots are,to a certain extent,influenced by the prevalent study on stones among literatus in Qing Dynasty.Zhong Yuxian'Inscriptions,Zhong Yuxian s Copy Prints and Zhong Yuxian's Poem.The designing style of Mansheng Teapots is inherited up to now.Its pursuit for elegance is highly praised by masters like Gu Jingzhou.Zhang Shouzhi,Wang Jianzhong.Bao Zhiqiang and Wu Guangrong.Their works are influenced by Mansheng Teapots,highlighting concise modeling.On the top of that.their works evolve as with new colors and skills in the pursuit of modern innovative modelings.Take Gu Jingzhou's Piao Pot for instance,his works is concisely encoded with traditional cultures and natural modeling,presenting his inheritance from Mansheng Teapots which highlights freedoms in modeling.
