Book design,an important part of arts design,is one of the manifestations of man's civilization. While working on a book in totality, the designer is supposed to take into consideration not only the potential readers' foundations in terms of traditional culture, but also the aesthetic standards, capabilities and interests required by them and society. The designer's respect for traditional culture, the aesthetic interests of readers, and the content and features of texts, combined with a perfect integration of form and function, which gives readers sensory pleasure, produces an appeal to their mental needs, and guides them to noble pursuits in spirit, fills his design with a cultural flavor, that is,a text flavor, which is called the cultural taste of a book in this thesis. As an integral perception, the cultural taste of a book is a perfect integration of form and function,or,a harmonious co-existence of form and spirit, which is,however, expressed and conveyed through details. The orientation and details treatment of book design consist in reflecting the content and style of a text, the feelings and ideas the author intends to express, and the characteristics and orientations of reader groups as well, so that the book designed maintains the same style and harmony in the use of formation elements, such as the layout, color, word, picture, material, and technology, and its appearance is an indicator of the content and a reflection of the designer's concepts and mental outlook, which is full of kind of modest beauty of scholarship.
