Job burnout is a mental and physical exhaustion caused by occupational state, in terms of job performance for emotional exhaustion, attitude of indifference, and reduced personal accomplishment. The aim of this study was to investigate the overall status of our fir efighters about occupational stress, self-compassion and job burnout, and to explore the relationships among those three variables, and to lay the foundation of mental health for them effectively.This research started with 312 firefighters as participants in Henan province. Then the firefighters served as subjects, using Occupational Stress Questionnaire of fire fighters, Self-Compassion Scale and CMBI(Chinese Maslach Burnout Inventory)for the survey. The results showed that:(1)The overall occupation pressure of our firefighters is c lose to the middle level, among the six factors of occupation stress, the scores of work itself pressure is the highest.(2)Our firefighters' self-compassion is a little higher than the middle level. By statistical analysis, it shows that t here are signifi cant differences of the s cores of self-co mpassion in different degrees. Their self-compassion scores of high school/secondary and university degree were significantly higher than that of junior school degree.(3)The job burnout of firefighters is mild but close to moderate level. Moreover, in all subjects, there are more than 60% of the participants has different degrees of job burnout. Dehumanization is most serious, followed by the diminished personal accomplishment and emotional exhaustion.(4)There are significant positively correlations between firefighters' occupational stress a nd job burnout.At the same time, occupation development pressure, e xternal support pressure, management pressure and personal ability pressure are good predictors of job burnout.(5)There are significant negatively correlations between self-compassion and job burnout. Meanwhile, the sense of isolation, addiction and conscious are good predictors of job burnout.(6)There are significant negatively correlations between occupational stress and self-compassion. And all the six factors of occupational stress are good predictors of self-compassion level.(7) Self-compassion can serve as a mediator, which plays the partial mediation effect between occupational stress and job burnout. On the one hand, occupational stress have a direct influence on job burnout, on the other hand, it will affect the level of job burnout through self-compassion.
