Countertenor refers to a special way of singing in which male performers, through long-term of repeated practice, sing in a falsetto with adult men' s super convertional vocal range. In the context of the rise of European ancient music movement at the end of the 20 th century, countertenor, led by the countertenor performer Alfred Deller, spread throughout Europe and then became popular all over the world. Xiaoma, who is considered one of the best countertenor performers in China, has displayed for the first time his extraordiary singing talent and skills in the field of domestic vocal music. This very article tries to explore and analyse the artistic charm of countertenor through Xiaoma's singing ability.This paper is composed of three parts, the introduction, the three-chapter body text and the conclusion. The introduction mainly explains research subjects, status, ideas,innovation, methods and so on. The first chapter briefly introduces the origin and the development of countertenor as well as some famous countertenor performers. The second chapter mainly deals with the first countertenor Xiaoma in China and his singing style, and analyzes the singing features of countertenor through some of Xiaoma' s singing examples. The third chapter describes the present development situation of countertenor in China. The final chapter is the conclusion.Countertenor needs a wide vocal range, with a strong male body to sing in a lady-like tone, characteristic of males' masculine and force for singing and females' beautiful and soft voice. With the development of the art of vocal music, countertenor did not die out depending on its unique artistic expressiveness; instead, it has survived showing its new value and charm; which is worthy for us to learn from and refer to.
