Consecutive interpreting is one of the interpretation patterns in which an interpreter interprets after the spokesman delivers one sentence, one chunk, one paragraph or even the whole passage. It's widely applied in international conferences, mainly for press conference and various small and medium sized meetings, while the class interpreting is a special branch of it. As an MTI student who starts to learn interpreting, being able to participate in foreign affairs and activities are extremely precious opportunities to practice and gain experiences. The author has the honor to be the interpreter for Professor Stephen Neely, from the Carnegie Mellon University, Pennsylvania, and mainly responsible for the liaison interpreting, class interpreting, daily affairs communications, etc. This report is based on recording audios of Dalcroze teaching master class interpretation project and transcription of it, the author starts with analyzing the problems she encountered during the project and then summarize the major issues of comprehension phase and language production phase during the consecutive interpreting.With reference to researches of scholars both at home and abroad, and personal interpreting practice, this report analyzes the process of consecutive interpreting from perspectives of deficiency of musical terminology and knowledge, challenges in interpreting the directive language, difficulty in fluent expression, misunderstanding of the source text, and explores how to apply relevant skills to improve the quality of consecutive interpreting by preparing before and during interpreting, lifting public speaking capability, employing different strategy according to the audience, developing integrative view of the setting. This report uses the angle of an MTI student, the interpretation starter, analyzing the transcription and put forward revision in accordance with the interpretation process and draw lessons from it, and hope it could give any reference to other MTI student.
