The Interpretation Of Ten Years’ Diplomatic Speeches In The Perspective Of Skopostheory

In the perspective of Skopostheory, this paper discussed the different interpretations of diplomatic speeches in different diplomatic occasions with a time lag from2002to2012. Through the analysis of these speeches, the author pointed out the causes for these differences and suggested some key interpreting strategies for important diplomatic speeches.The features of diplomatic interpreting include its adherence to the diplomatic principle, the implicitly, purpose and sense of proportion, which making the diplomatic interpreting different from other interpreting in other occasions. Common diplomatic occasions include the bilateral talks, banquets and media briefing. By the comparison of specific interpretations of diplomatic speeches in2002and2012, this paper is aimed to explore the similarities and differences of the interpreting during the decade. The author found that the differences mainly existed in three aspects, namely the address forms, ancient poetry and language morphologies. These differences may result from the background of the times and the professional skills of the interpreter. Based on this analysis, the author suggested four interpreting strategies which can be applied in diplomatic occasions under the instructions of Skopostheory.The significance of this study is to further explore the theoretical study of diplomatic interpreting based on the Skopostheory. The new study method for studying the interpreting based on the time span, which will also help enrich the study methods in the further research.
