Translated fictions during the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republication period is an important part of the third climax in the history of translation. However, the translated fictions during this period, especially, the early ones published on Shen Newspaper did not receive enough attention but criticism. Translators were not faithful to the original novels and added numerous Chinese elements into the translations subjectively. That's why both the translations and translators received unfair treatment and comment. The criticism broke away from the historical and social background and the evaluation of the translation and translator was unfair. On the basis of recognition above, this thesis chose two translated fictions, Tan Ying Xiao Lu and Yi Shui Qi Shi Nian, published on Shen Newspaper. Much attention was paid to the Chinese elements in the translated fictions and the restraints yet influence which the social and cultural situation impact on translated fictions. This thesis adopted Andre Lefevere's manipulation theory. And analysis was done aspects ideology, patronage and poetics. Being influenced by factors like the social background, the education background of the translator, dominant poetics, patronage yet readers of Shen Newspaper, translators chose to recreate the original novels and added numerously Chinese elements into the translations. For example, the translator adopted classic Chinese and Zhanghui style; translated the name of characters and places in the original novels with Chinese features; and the plots in the translated fictions shared commons with those in Chinese classics. The translated fictions during this period evaluated social status of Chinese fictions and enriched the narrative patterns of Chinese original fictions.
