The public and the private regarded as the important ethical principles have played a key role in dealing with social relationships and intersubjective relationships.In the period of the Spring and Autumn,and Warring-states with the ritual collapse and social disruption, the scholars have put forward different concepts about the public and the private in Pre-qin, who attempt to integrate public-private relationships, trestore the world, and reconstruct the social order.As the founder of the famous mohism in Pre-qin, mozi who considered the will of heaven,saint and people profoundly has constructed the systematic theory and current political views of public-private from the political, social, and economic dimensions.Consequently this paper attempts to research the Mo-tse’s view of public-private from the perspective of ethics,including analysing its origin,connotation and specific contents and details, and exploring its theoretical value and significance.The whole paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter mainly discusses mozi’s concept of public-private,and analyses its meanings and thoughtful backgrounds in order to understand the development of concept of the public and the private. The second chapter mainly analyses the problems of public power and private rights in "Promoting the Worthy",explores the source, distribution and purpos of public power or "ruler", "officer",and realizes the real relatinships among law,righteous politics and boundaries of public power and private rights.The third chapter explores public moral and private moral problems in "Identifying Upward.",straightens out the relationships of universal love and self-love,and public justice and private righteousness.Fourth chapter probes into the problems of public interest and private interest with the equal and mutual pinciple, makes people understand how to treat the relationship between the whole public interest and the individual self-interest in the economic life of the production interests, non-attack and conservation.The final chapter finds the internal relations between the wiil of heaven,intellectual ghost andpublic-private,seeks the metaphysical basis of public-private rationally so as to guarantee and practice public value.
