This paper includes three parts: introduction, main body and conclusion. Introduction part gives a brief illustration about Camus’ life and story outline of “The stranger”. It summar-izes research results and blind points of predecessors, and puts forward the research method and research thought.The main body part is divided into three chapters: the first chapter beg-ins with a review of the French colonial rule on Algeria, and combined with era characteristcs and Camus’ life experience, points out that their effect on “The stranger” and conspiracy relationship with France; the second chapter is a deep discussion about different narratives about empire and colony, reveals the historical facts behind the narrative, demonstrates the participating way of the novel in promoting and maintaining the colonial career of the empire;the third chapter explores the influence of the novel on the expansion of the Empire from perspectives of suzerain and colony.In the conclusion part, Edward Said theory is used to sumup the results of each chapter, conclude the arguments of this paper.That means that "The stranger" took part in the empire building and colonization process in a hidden way by different writings of suzerain and colony.All in all, though the method of combination of text reading and history, and repeated verification of the works and the Empire, this paper digs out the strong characteristics of the times reflected in this novel and its deep meaning that is known to few people.
