The Roles Of Lu Xun’s Novel "Call To Arms" And "Wandering" Figures Discourse

This paper takes character discourse in Lu Xun’s realistic novel“Call to Arms"(呐喊)and"Wandering"(彷徨)as the research object,uses conversation analysis,cooperative principle,politeness principle,adaptation theory,speech act theory and other linguistic theories and narrative theories,adopts the research method of combination of individuality and commonness,combination of linguistics and literature,combination of analysis and synthesis,makes a careful investigation and analysis of character discourse in Lu Xun’s novels,explores the different roles of characters discourse in the novels,all of which deepen our understanding of the characters discourse in the novels and enriches cases of character discourse,at the same time,it can guide us to have a better understanding of characters discourse in novel,and the author hopes to apply the study results to the actual literary creation.This paper is divided into six parts.The first chapter is the introduction. It elaborates the basis of selected topic, the research object as well as summarizes the research status of character discourse, Lu Xun’s novels, characters discourse in Lu Xun’ novels. While admitting the achievements, it also points out the defect of research, and then makes clear the purpose and significance of this study.The second chapter analyzes the shaping role of characters discourse in character shaping in Lu Xun’s novel. From the static and dynamic aspects, the paper has analyzed the character discourse and corresponding character; the so-called static aspect is to focus on analysis of linguistic ontology on character’s pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and rhetoric characteristics, which show the characters’ unique discourse features, thus revealing the characters. As " Call to Arms " and "Wandering" are a collection of short stories, which means a single character discourse will not run through the entire novel. Therefore, this paper selects the representative character discourse to do analysis. The so-called dynamic analysis is to focus on the dynamic process of the character discourse, whether characters’ speech decision and character discourse comply with the cooperative principle, politeness principle, and whether the character discourse is harmonious with context, and the character’s speech act and other dynamic angle to do analysis and based on this character, it can make up the insufficiency of the static analysis.The third chapter analyzes the reveling role of the characters’ discourse on the relationship between the characters. In this paper, it mainly analyzes two kinds of relationship: one is the power relationship, mainly referring to the status level. Another is the interpersonal relationship, mainly referring to the intimacy of relationship. It mainly uses the politeness principle, the discourse analysis, the cooperative principle, the adaption theory and relevance theory and so on.The fourth chapter analyzes the reveling influence of characters’ discourse on characters’ thoughts. It mainly uses the evaluation theory to analyze the ideology and ideology behind the characters’ discourse, especially the common people’s words.The fifth chapter analyzes the irony role of characters discourse from the perspective of rhetoric. Firstly, it uses linguistic theory, including communicative decision theory, speech act theory and cooperation principle to analyze the character discourse’s irony characteristics, then further analyses the deviation and dislocation of the discourse and social roles through the character discourse, thus showing the irony of social role of characters.In chapter six, it analyses various roles of character discourse on the narration of novel from the narrative point, including the foreshadowing role, plot development, substitutive narration role, and suspense effect. Also this chapter analysis is based on using linguistic theory, such as using speech act theory to analyze the promoting role of character discourse on the plot, and using textual linguistics to analyze the suspense effect of character language.The last part is the conclusion. It combs this paper and summarizes the conclusion.
