The sci-fi movie is a relatively particular part in the movie art, while the space sci-fi movie is one important genre within the field of the sci-fi movie. It developed throughout the entire movie history, but also with modern scientific knowledge and technology level of human progress. The development of the space sci-fi movie can be seen as the epitome of the development history of industrialization society and digital technology. And in view of the movie genre, modern space sci-fi movie is the transformation and innovation of the traditional western genre movie by the myth of the prototype and unique aesthetic purport of the transformation and innovation. Through diversification of artistic creative means and rich imagination of the humanities, the content of the aspects such as religion, politics, science and technology, especially the digital media era of entering the new century, which makes space science fiction movie screen, show extraordinary vitality and creativity. In the aspect of the idea, the form and the theme, it is full of unique imagination and the introspection towards the society, the people themselves and the politics; in the aspect of visual style, it is the typical presentation of exotic spectacles; while in the aspect of the sound effect, it breaks the boundary of the screen and the border between the reality and the virtual world.This thesis reviews the developing process of space sci-fi movies, sets the time and background of the research object within the period of New Hollywood, and discusses its genre creation in the aspects of creative motives, mythic narration, aesthetic psychology and audio-visual spectacle. By discussing the topic, the author concludes that the space sci-fi movies have the inheritance and innovation of the western movies of the period of classic Hollywood, which gives deep understanding and perception towards this genre movie and put forward the practical methods feasible for native movies. Therefore, this thesis sets the space sci-fi movie of this period as the research object to explore its unique charm, and gives some experience and guidance for the space sci-fi movie research lacking in our native movie industry.
