With the beginning of the 21st century, the rapid development of the technology has accelerated the process of material modernization. As a synthetic art, film has become increasingly diversified in terms of the shooting skills and patterns of manifestation. Change and innovation have increased with each passing day. However, this kind of innovation is merely the mass culture recreation generated in accordance with the social development trend. Hence, many films tend to be assimilated in terms of material selection, narrative mode and composition. Moreover, compared with the numerous genre films nowadays, films appearing in the middle and later periods of the last century have shown a new style. Nevertheless, many avant-garde films have begun to decline and be less popular due to piercingly cold and unique pioneering feature which is inconsistence with the increasingly changing social rhythm. In the paper, we will focus on the Japanese filmdom in the 1960 s and 1970 s. Analysis will be conducted on the weird and uninhibited visual style, as well as the unrestrained imagination of a Japanese director Sh?ji Terayama. Moreover, the paper will de-structure and analyze the picture composition, scene setting and color application of the film, while it also introduces the construction of the visual sign, and the use of more abundant multi-dimensional language to create bolder and more intuitional vision expression form.
