The traditional armchair philosophy relies on the intuitive methods of prior self-explanation in philosophical research. With the rise of the experimental philosophy and cognitive science, experimental philosophers disagree with the method, and approve the method of combing the empirical and the prior. The traditional armchair philosophy has been seriously challenged by the experimental philosophy.Philosophers take different views on the challenges. Some philosophers who view the intuition as evidences provide a set of tools to defend reliability of intuition.Devitt is one of them.On his opinion, the clarification of the debate between armchair philosophers and experimental philosophers doesn't rely on a single argument, but a "tool kit" to demonstrate. From logical analysis of the intuitive nature to phenomenological analysis such as the intuitive truth conditions, execution conditions and construction conditions, based on the combination of experience foundation and realism,Such "tool kit" shows the significance in solving the debate between armchair philosophers and the experimental philosophers. The thesis is mainly divided into four parts. The first chapter is to study the connotation of intuition. We define intuition from the phenomenological perspective, and make a classification for intuition, and illustrates the main features of intuition in the aspect of cognitive philosophy. This part outlines the essential characteristics of intuition as a whole. The second chapter is a comprehensive analysis of cognitive thought from experimental semantics.Devitt constructs cognitive mechanism of intuition. Moreover,he is in the naturalist and realist positions of intuition from the view of cognitive philosophy. The third chapter investigates of intentionality of intuition, which concretely analyses the unity of intention from the subject and the object perspective.Furthermore, this chapter illustrates unified representation of intention in intuitive self and inner sense, revealing its position to defend realism. The fourth chapter discusses the significance and limitations of Devitt's cognitive theory of intuition. It enriches the experience of intuitions and intentions of cognitive thought, and finds a modest way to resolve the debate between traditional armchair philosophers and experimental philosophers. It points out that Devitt's cognitive theory of intuition not only has great of significance for theory, but also for methodology. Moreover,it also has its limitation.
