Since ancient times Shanxi Province is known as the “Folk Songs of the Ocean”,and the types of songs are too numerous to mention one by one.Moreover,Shaanxi Province,which separated with Shanxi by a river,is also a renowned place of Folk Songs and characteristic of “Xintianyou”.Through making a comparison and research on “Hequ folk song” and “Xintianyou”,it is better to find out the characteristic of regional culture and explore the impact on the development of folk songs.Thereby,it benefits to promote “Hequ folk song” and “Xintianyou” in order to hand down and protect non-material cultural heritage.“Hequ folk song” and “Xintianyou” are wisdom crystallization of people from North of Shanxi Province and Northern Shaanxi Province for a long time.They are true portrayal of the people who live in the different social background,and they can also reflect the different feelings of the people.They can be said to the real reflections of every aspect of people's lives,thoughts and customs at that time.In the past there was no effective way of media while folk song was a very valid means of communication at that time.Folk song is not only to retain the historical condition and show the people's living conditions,but an indispensable part of Chinese music culture,even more it is our country's important cultural resources.Based on the analysis of the literature research,the author conducts field work on the folk songs from Hequ and Northern Shaanxi Province,then makes an analysis and point-by-point comparison between them by music analysis method.This thesis analyzes and compares the development process,singing styles,singing technique,lyrics feature and musical forms between “Hequ folk song” and “Xintianyou” from the perspective of historical origins,and then explains the connection between performance,contents and local regional features,customs of the two forms of folk songs.“Hequ folk song” and “Xintianyou”,which are popular forms of folk songs in the North of Shanxi Province and Northern Shaanxi Province,record musical culture transformation of two regions.By the comparison and analysis on the “Hequ folk song” and “Xintianyou”,it can be seen that the two forms of folk songs can carry memories of laboring people's lives.But under the background of new ages,the two forms of folk songs encounter obstacles of development and face the condition of no longer in existence.Therefore to hand down and protect folk songs is one of the most important way to solve this problem.This thesis analyzes the significance of heritage and protection towards “Hequ folk song” and “Xintianyou”,and points out under the background of new ages it is needed to be fully aware of their survival condition so as to rethink the methods of heritage and protection on traditional folk songs.On the basis of retaining musical features of traditional “Hequ folk song” and “Xintianyou”,this thesis puts forward two solutions.On the one hand,maintaining traditional folk songs,which means to preserve the original “Hequ folk song” and “Xintianyou” in the way of “ museum”.So the two forms of folk songs can become indispensable part of non-material cultural heritage.On the other hand,changing them properly in order to get in touch with the new times.For example,to fill with new lyrics and content or to present some new ways of performance,can make more chance to survive and accord with the development features of new ages.Maybe it is better to hand down and protect folk songs from the two regions.The national characteristic is the cultural heritage,so the original ecological folk songs are important parts of traditional culture.All this requires that we must protect our traditional Chinese culture consistently,protect our foundation and our Chinese treasures.
